”Don Bartalo understands the essence of second order change. He is focused on how to enable school leaders to work within a new pedagogical paradigm. The Book Every Teacher and Instructional Leader Should Read
By Amazon Customer
I've waited for Don Bartalo's book, Closing the Teaching Gap, to be available and it was certainly worth the wait. As a past teacher and staff developer, I've read many professional books but this one is different. It is very readable information for educators of today who are trying to make sense of mandates, testing, and mounds of paperwork while at the same time are attempting to keep best teaching practice front and center. The book is well organized and obviously written by an author who knows the importance of being clear and immediately helpful. The book gives examples of best teaching practice, quotes some of the best educators in the field, and gives concrete steps for coaching to achieve best practice. A middle school department chairperson took it off my desk to read and to show to her principal. She works with teachers everyday and immediately saw the value of this book. Wow!! A book that will make a difference.

`Closing the Teach Gap' Might Help You to Save Your School!
By Harry S. Pearle
This book could be a career saver for many teachers and administrators. In Rochester, NY, where I live, we go through superintendents every few years. The last one to leave, was hired in Chicago two years ago, and now he is out of work.
I think that `Closing the Teaching Gap" can not only help leaders, but it may help to save schools, and school districts, too.
I believe that Don Bartalo has found the answer. Rather that fire teachers and school leaders, we need to fire them up! His book can help them to improve from within.
Here is just a sample: (page 142, Can You Take Constructive Criticism)
"One of the hardest things in the world is to accept criticism, especially when it is not presented in a constructive way. Like mistakes, however, constructive criticism can be a most valued teacher. In fact, one of the reasons that some leaders do not grow on the job is because they shy away from constructive criticism. It is only when you know how others perceive what you have been doing that you are able to address your shortcomings. Criticism may be a tough pill to swallow but it will help you to improve more than flattery..."
