Larry Gaines is chair of his department and a longtime, well-known figure in the field, both as an educator and in law enforcement. Highly respected and well-liked in the discipline, he is also a former law enforcement officer whose experience has resulted in a book with powerful "cop appeal."

Roger LeRoy Miller has served on the faculty of several respected universities, including the University of Washington, Clemson University, and the University of Miami School of Law. As a professor, he has taught intellectual property law and entertainment law, among other subjects. A widely published and respected author, his work has appeared in the Insurance Counsel Journal, Defense Research, California Trial Lawyers Journal, Antitrust Bulletin, Wisconsin Law Review, and Connecticut Law Review. Very good book, easy to read and organized

This book is very well written and organized.
From front to back there are close to 600 pages.
16 chapters broken down into five major portions: The Criminal Justice System Today, The Police and Law Enforcement, The Criminal Court, Rehabilitation & Corrections and lastly Special Issues.
Each chapter starts with a story or case that is referred to throughout the chapter, with section summaries.
Also in the each chapter there are ethical scenarios with a "You Be The Judge" ending.
Each chapter is about 30 to 40 pages each.

This has been a very good book and I wish you the best in your studies using it

Great for CJ classes!!!

Its hard to review a textbook in my opinion. I will review the book thus far as I have been using it in my criminal justice class. I think the information contained in the book is delivered well and easy to understand. The use of modern day cases helps make understanding the chapters easier. Its very nice to be able to rent the textbook for the class that you need and then return it upon completion. This feature saves me a lot of money and hassle from having to sell the book after the class in finished. I would have rather had a hard covered book rather than the paperback version just because its not as flimsy, but I am making due. This book will more than suit your needs for your college coursework.

Smolarz argues for continuity between OT and NT concepts and theologies in general, and for continuity between the Apocalypse and OT material in particular, showing that the Apocalypse has much in common with other parts of the NT. In doing so, he focuses on some Gospel parables and reads them against their OT background. He also examines instances of the divine marriage metaphor in Paul's theological reflections. The focus of Smolarz' volume is a covenantal reading of the Apocalypse. He argues that the metaphor helps to establish the Apocalypse's Sitz im Leben, which he relates to the main conflict between the faithful and the unfaithful within the people of God in the first century CE. His work establishes that the Apocalypse contains not only explicit instances, but also implicit references and many echoes of this covenantal metaphor.

Excellent scholarly resource

This is an excellent, well-argued, important work on Revelation. Smolarz works from an early-date perspective and sees the Babylonian harlot as a metaphor for apostate Jerusalem prior to AD 70. He traces the divine marriage theme throughout Scripture, finally getting to Revelation in his last chapter.

Insightful and Important Book!

I may be charged with bias, since I have written a book on "We Shall Meet Him In The Air, the Wedding of the King of kings," in which I explore the marvelous metaphor of the Wedding motif in scripture, but, even granting my personal bias for this subject matter, this is a great book! Smolarz shares with us some excellent research and his linguistic studies so often shed light on many texts in which we might not be attuned to the marriage metaphor. His insights into the book of Revelation and the significance of the marriage metaphor there, as relating to the divorcement of "Israel" is fantastic, not to mention challenging for the modern view of Revelation. I have shared this book with several others, and they now share my appreciation for it. You need this book!

This is a karate masterpiece!

This book can be a masterpiece of karate martial art.

There are three major differences this book from any other karate materials I have ever read.

First of all, this book is written in an English speaker friendly manner. If you open the pages, you will easily see that each Japanese terminology is written with plain English pronunciations. For example, page 9, the term "Age-uke" is pronounced as "ah"-gay"-"oo"- "kay." This pronunciation teaches English speaker how to say each Japanese terms accurately.

Secondly, a great numbers of pictures are used to demonstrate each karate technique in this book. They enable to clarify the detail of karate movement and technique with step-by-step method. I realized that some techniques are illustrated sequential manner; therefore, even senior citizen can learn each technique with their own comfortable learning pace.

Thirdly, this book is easy-to-follow for anyone: men, women, and children...whoever interested in learning or improving karate martial art abilities. This book teaches and illustrates "Traditional Japanese Karate," a young female introduces karate techniques. In spite of her youth and beauty, we can see her muscle strength, powerful movement, and steady posture. We can receive an impactive message from the author as "karate is for everyone" as his purpose of publishing this book.

Personally, I love reading this book because this book helps my 10 years old son who started karate a few years ago. It dramatically increased his karate vocabulary and he amazed the great number of defense and offense methods described in this book. Now he can do preview/review each technique before/after his karate lessons. I believe this book is also helpful for his belt test because it gains him the number of techniques, especially for ippon-kumite testing.

Going beyond age, gender, language, and nationality, anyone can learn karate for both mental and physical strength with this book. I highly recommend "Traditional Japanese Karate"! The book is easy to understand and follow and will improve your Karate abilities in a short time.

Learn Karate the Japanese way with this easy-to understand narrative with stellar illustrations! You can see and read what you need to do to develop your martial art skills at any level! As a mom of two GREEN belts from Sinsei Abe's dojo, I can attest to his thorough knowledge in the arena of Karate! You won't be disappointed with this book, it's the first I have seen with the English/Japanese terminology!

I am disappointed with the formatting of this e-book. In digital view, the minimum useable screen will be your desktop. If you really WANT to take the book with you on your Kindle or i-pod, maybe this is a barely viewable/viable option.
My opinion: Buy the book and do not touch the digital version until this gets a really good overhaul.

This is an excellent book for researchers who conduct empirical economic analysis using R. Regardless of one's experience with R, it will get you started should one follow the examples in the book closely. In addition, this book contains some philosophy of doing research, from research design to computer programming to manuscript writing. A researcher's efficiency can be greatly improved if he/she keeps thinking and practicing this way. Also, this book introduces some other software that is commonly used in academic research, e.g., EndNote, LaTex, etc. Again, if one follows the book step by step and integrates those software, one's productivity will be dramatically enhanced.

To simply put, this is not a pure R programming book, not a pure statistics book, not a pure econometrics book, but a book that can guide you through the jungle of empirical economic research. Start as a rookie and end up as a contributor to the club!
