Good stories, but not enough! Only 3-4 short tales, lots of typos. Next time actually proofread. Spell check on tells you words are spelled correctly, not that they are the right words!

I wouldn't say any of the stories were bad but they all just missed the mark on nailing ...

3.5 rounded up to 4 stars. I'm a huge River Song fan. After listening to the magic that was the audio dramas by Big Finish I decided to check out this book. Unfortunately these authors didn't exactly capture River in the way that we know her. I wouldn't say any of the stories were bad but they all just missed the mark on nailing River's attitude and poise. The stories were still enjoyable and well written.

She's bringing Sexy back

Consisting of five short stories (about 50 pages each give or take), with just two of the stories featuring Mat Smith’s incarnation of the Doctor, & all from the perspective of River.
So what I think makes this new Doc Who novel a little different, is that River has always been a little subversive, never seeing anything wrong is breaking the law is if doesn’t hurt anybody who hasn’t got it coming, which gives the stories a interesting shade of grey instead of the usually whiter that white.
The only down side is the briefness of the stories (they just seem to get going when it’s all over), but still a thoroughly enjoyable romp.

Only 4 stars because of the book spine gluing (it is weak).
But anyhow I recommend this book to anyone who is interested in holography.

Amazing and life changing! A MUST read!

What can I say about this book? Eric Butterworth was a legend in the Unity movement. He was a Unity minister for many, many years. For those of you not familiar with Unity, this is not a problem. You can still glean so much knowledge and advice from this book. The insights and Truth that is found in these pages will change your life! This book really speaks to the true nature of Jesus the Christ and who he really was. What is Christ Consciousness? And what are princples of Truth? What does the Bible say about reincarnation? Past lives? How do we live to our true, full and glorious potential? All these questions are answered in this book. This book really helps us to 'come up higher' and listen to that 'still, small voice' inside us. It teaches us that all God wants for us is ultimate good! It teaches us about Divine Order and how God is constantly working with us to help us reach our highest good! Oprah has read this book and was moved. Maya Angelou writes a beatiful preface, calling Butterworth her mentor and spiritual teacher. Even if you have never heard of Unity, don't let that discourage you from reading this book. Who knows? Discover The Power Within You

Eric Butterworth's book Discover The Power Within You is fantastic! It lifts the veil of mystery from the spiritual experience. His message is simple and clearly stated, that if we will just excercise the power we all have in us by going within and communing with God, then we will no longer have discord in our lives. It is one of the most profound and moving books that I have ever read. I highly recommend it for anyone who is willing to take personal responsibility for their lives and wishes to co-create with God. Butterworth brings forth Jesus' beautiful message that we are all Gods (John 10:34) - not one more special or powerful than another. We need simply to WAKE UP! and recognize our own innate divinity.

A Unity Classic

This motivational, inspirational, spiritual, enlightening and mind expanding book was written about "What did Jesus really teach?" It is based on the teachings of Charles and Myrtle Fillmore, founders of the Unity Movement, and "Lessons in Truth" by Emilie Cady. Although anyone from any religious background can practice the Unity principles, the interpretation of Bible and Jesus's teachings in this book and "Lessons in Truth" are quite different than mainstream Christianity.

It is interesting that when I checked the reviews, there were two people who gave one star to this book. The first person didn't like it because "it was too religious" and the other one claimed "there was not enough religion in it." Unity is called "spirituality without dogma" and the Unity publications are highly motivational writings intertwined with metaphysical Christianity. Unity principles, also the content of this book, are as follow:

1. God is love, all good and the only source of our prosperity (Prosperity includes our emotional, mental, and spiritual as well as physical needs). He is omnipotent, omniscience and omnipresent.
2. Humans are made in God's image. Therefore, we all have Holy Spirit living in us.( the Divinity of Man)
3. What we dwell on is what we bring more of in our lives. Positive thinking brings positive results. (Energy flows where mind goes)
4. In order to be healthy mentally, physically and spiritually, we need to be connected to our Creator with regular prayer.
5. Affirmative prayer (Instead of pleading and bargaining with God, being grateful and thanking God for the answered prayer before it is answered) brings positive results.

If you are working on personal-growth and spiritual enlightenment, this is the book for you. However if you take Bible literally and think your way is the only way to God, this book may offend you. I have learned a lot from reading this book including the following :

Jesus was not born on December 25 in the beginning year of the Christian calendar but in August in 4 B.C.
The Council of Necaea was called by Constantine in A.D. 325 to determine a definition of God acceptable to all, " like union-management negotiation" to secure political unity. After "a bitter struggle", God was made three persons: Father, Son and Holy Ghost.
The doctrine of "original sin" did not come from Jesus' teachings but a concept created as a reaction to "Gnostic Christians"
According to the recorded history, early Christians taught reincarnation as a doctrine of the church until the Council of Constantinople in A.D. 325. (St. Francis of Assisi and St. Augustine)

There are also very entertaining sections in the book such as "What was Jesus's last name?", "Was Jesus a Christian?", "Did Jesus intend to start a new religion named for Himself?", and "Is God a Christian?" as well as the thought provoking chapter: "In Defense of Judas." If you like this book, you will love "Lessons in Truth" by Emilie Cady, better yet "Complete Works of Emilie Cady".

Made the mistake of spending $2K to go to a Scott Yancey three day workshop where I could have just purchased this book and learned how to flip from A - Z. I am 3/4 of the way through the book and they provide a step by step process from where to find the property, how to approach the seller, estimating repair costs, making the offer, etc. I recommend this book to read, re read and take notes.

The definitive how-to guide to get started flipping houses

This is the perfect book to get started flipping houses. It is comprehensive. It includes all the basic information you must learn to have a shot at being successful. It also goes into great detail on many aspects of flipping, including such important issues as when to schedule each phase of work during the renovation process. It isn't the last book you'll need to read, but after reading it, you'll want to get started flipping right away. You will feel ready. The answers to questions you have and even questions you didn't know you had are all in there. FLIP is the closest thing to having a mentor that you can get in a book. It doesn't sugar-coat the business by making it seem like it can be done without any effort, but it does show that by preparing properly (and this book is a great manual to help you prepare), absolutely anyone can flip houses. I did find myself wishing the book was an iPad App because there are so many links to their website. Rather than having to print out the checklists and forms from their website, a flipper could just pull them up on their iPad or tablet while on the job site. Perhaps they're working on an App...

Doesn't pull any punches!

I'm in the real estate business and have worked with people who thought they wanted to get into the flipping business. I read this book from cover to cover and then used the website referenced within. This book gives very concise, easy to understand, steps for every stage of flipping. There's so much more to it than just buying a house and fixing it up. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone considering this as an investment or hobby.

I hated Gone Girl

Thankfully I ignored the comparisons. The Good Girl definitely has a vibe similar to Gone Girl. Missing girl. Multiple narratives. The difference is I hated all the Gone Girl characters. (except perhaps the sister) I hated them and waited for every one of their lies and manipulations to be punished. The ending fell sadly short. I was left with no satisfaction. No, or little, retribution.

The Good Girl is the polar opposite. I really liked the characters. Or most of them. I felt their struggles were real. Their interactions were real. The bad guys were developed enough to identify and dislike them, but the story is not about the bad guys. It's about surviving. Surviving trauma the began before and ended well after a kidnapping.

p.s. the ending is thoroughly satisfying

I read somewhere that this book would have a plot-twist that like Gone Girl. Was very disappointed. The book is okay, but simple. There are many plot holes that I could not get past, and by the end I was un-amused. It's a very predictable book.

The Mediocre Novel

The Good Girl -- I cannot help but wonder if the title were chosen so that potential readers would associate it with Gone Girl. Who knows? One thing I do know is that this novel is a middling thriller about a missing girl. Mia is a twenty-something, estranged from her wealthy family, who suddenly disappears. The novel shifts back and forth in time and shifts perspective as well between three of the characters--Mia's mother, Mia's kidnapper and the detective trying to solve Mia's disappearance. The end result of the kidnapping, which I won't give away here, is revealed very early on in the novel, which left me wondering: why am I reading this novel? At the end, there is an unanticipated twist--so unanticipated as to be a little useless. Skip this one and read The Girl on the Train, or Gone Girl, if you are looking for a good psychological thriller. This one is neither good nor thrilling.

some good stuff. most i already knew

My dad is a lawyer and didn't teach me anything except work hard in school so when you grow up you can pay someone well to do handy work for you.

I like to do my own work and am a mechanical engineer.

This book had some good stuff, but most of it I learned in the boy scouts. The non-handy stuff I learned from my dad.

There was some good handy stuff that I didn't know. But this is a small book and not a serious self-improvement book. This would be a better becoming a man present for a 16 year old or younger boy.

Women can read this too!

I brought this book home for my husband, but I actually read it first! It was full of humor, as well as tips on how to navigate your way through life. And yes, as a woman, I still felt the need to read this. While it is indeed awesome for a man to tie his own tie, it can be extremely sexy and intimate for the woman in his life to do it for him. And I also might need too know how to carve a turkey or change a flat tire. All in all, it's an entertaining read, full of useful, or at the least, interesting tidbits. The reason I didn't give it a higher rating is that I wanted more.
