Great book on soil and water chemistry, it covers all the topics I'd expect and is pretty reasonable.

Complex and in PhD Speak

I found this textbook to be an extremely frustrating read, and I completely gave up on trying to use it. Even though it was a required book for my class, I find myself reading another soil and water chemistry book. The previous reviewers may have had more experience with chemistry, but I found most of the book was in "PhD speak", and for a non soil chemist, this just leads to frustration. The illustrations are the only redeeming portion of the book. The problems in the back of the chapters are a nice idea, but some of the questions are vague and confusing.

This book was used in our soil chemistry course, and I have rarely needed to review other soil chemistry texts since then. It is an excellent reference that I consistently return to, and recommend to others.

Mike Pearson is Professor of Performance Studies in the Department of Theatre, Film and Television at the University of Wales, Aberystwyth. Michael Shanks is Professor of Classics and Cultural Anthropology at Stanford University. "I will pick up almost any book that can teach me something about prayer. This book challenged my thoughts and beliefs about prayer in so many ways, I may have to reread it in order to get the full impact of what the authors have shared.

W L Seaver has collected and compiled A W Tozer's writings on prayer and added his own thoughts to each chapter. Each chapter is a challenge in and of itself, one of the most important concepts is that we have to INTIMATELY know God for our prayers to have real conversation value. Our prayers also must be preceded and followed by complete obedience. One of the most significant changes to my prayer beliefs is that God has three answers to our prayers--yes, no, wait (or "I have something better"). That takes prayer down to a trite grocery list where we lay out our desires and then walk away from our prayer thinking we have connected with God. Nothing is further from the truth. For example (and this happened to me a couple of weeks ago), we go to church, see people we know, ask how they are doing, and walk away before getting an answer. We feel we have made a connection when we barely acknowledged the others. Too often our prayer lives are like this. And a conversation MUST include talking and listening. We HAVE to listen to God to be able to say that we have prayed.

Seaver pointed this out with a quote that is older than Tozer--

Tell God all that is in your heart, as one unloads one’s heart, its pleasures and its pains, to a dear friend. Tell Him your troubles, that He may comfort you; tell Him your joys, that He may sober them; tell Him your longings, the He may purify them; tell Him your dislikes, that He may help you conquer them, talk to Him of your temptations, that He may shield you from them; lay bare your indifference to good, your depraved tastes for evil, you instability. Tell Him how self-love makes you unjust to others, how vanity tempts you to be insincere, how pride disguises you to yourself and others.

If you pour out all you weaknesses, needs, and troubles there will be no lack of what to say. You will never exhaust the subject. It is continually being renewed. People who have no secrets from each other never want for subjects of conversation. They do not weigh their words, for there is nothing to be held back; neither do they seek for something to say. They talk out of the abundance of the heart, without consideration they say what they think. Blessed are they who attain to such familiar, unreserved, conversation with God.

"I was super-excited to get a chance to review A.W. Tozer's 'new' book on prayer. (Can I just say I'm so thankful that new Tozer books continue to be released. Tozer may have died fifty years ago, but he's still ever-relevant, in my opinion.) This book gathers together Tozer's thoughts on prayer. Chapters come from his sermons, articles, or books. The first section--containing twenty-two chapters--is called 'Tozer's Writings,' and the second section--containing six chapters--is called 'Tozer's Sermons.' The first section, if I recall correctly, the readings are perhaps a bit shorter, but, contain bonus material. Summaries are provided for what you've just read in that chapter, and Tozer's ideas are discussed and explored further. These chapters also include discussion questions. The second section, the readings are definitely longer. These chapters all come from sermons, not books published before or after his death.

I would recommend this book for several reasons. One, I love A.W. Tozer. I do. I love him for his zeal, his passion, his stubborn clinging to the Bible as the undeniable WORD OF GOD. To read Tozer is to meet a man who loved God with mighty zeal. Tozer didn't seem to care about being popular or being well-liked. He cared about speaking the truth--as he saw it--and for Tozer, the source of truth was without a doubt, the Bible. Tozer was upset by things he saw: in the church, in society--and he spoke out about it. He clung to hope, however, that men and women could and would be transformed by the power of God, that godliness and holiness was always possible because our God is a big God, and his promises are true. Two, in addition to having a special appreciation for Tozer, I enjoy reading books on prayer. I think prayer remains a tricky subject being both simple and complex. I think believers will always need another book on prayer. And this one is worth reading. It has plenty of thought-provoking ideas in it. You may love or hate Tozer, but, you can't deny he makes you THINK."

poorly written, poorly formatted, not enough material

I'm wary of low-priced, self-published books with no reviews on amazon, but the introduction to this book seemed to be promising exactly what I was looking for so I took a chance. Unfortunately, that was a mistake. In a nutshell, this book is poorly written, poorly formatted, and there is not enough material to fully cover the topics that are discussed.

It seems like it might have been written in one sitting without the benefit of proof reading or reflection about whether there was adequate attention to the topics discussed. The assumptions given in the introduction specify the reader has "familiarity with C# at a basic level." The table of contents lists topic like inheritance, interfaces, and delegates and promises to go over the basics. Taken together, you might think the book will introduce you to these topics and how they are best used in Unity to write cleaner code. However, unless you have a fairly complete working knowledge of what each of these things are already, the material will be meaningless to you.

While the lack of adequate material is the core problem, it is compounded further by numerous grammar issues and typos. In addition, the code portions are not in a monospaced font, making it extremely difficult to make out what is happening, especially if you do not have a very wide reading device so that the typical line of code is wrapped and continues on the next line. I'm not sure what options amazon gives to publishers, but if this isn't possible, people simply shouldn't publish coding books on this particular platform.

On a more positive note, it seems as though the pattern (inadequately) touched on in this book would lead to cleaner code. It might serve as a useful overview to go learn about elsewhere. There does seem to be some useful snippets interspersed throughout the book.

It would be more appropriate as a series of blog posts. Simply put, this is not material that is worth paying any amount for in its current form.

This is an incredibly useful, quick read, well worth your time and money. Yes, it could use a proofread, but it is still readable and the information is great for a beginner because it is straightforward, with easy to follow code.

A fantastic unique book

This book is really fantastic.

The reader has the pleasant sensation to go through the book like he is attending a course of the Author, step by step, with no rush, having really the time to understand every concept of what he is reading.

Even pathological images were handy for me, because i was given the tools to understand them.

The style of the book is very particular as well, because the method is to teach you to understand what you see, explaining accurately what happened to that patient so that you see that image on the mammogram. I think this method is absolutely brilliant.

Furthermore the book is full of high-quality images and the text is not redundant and tiring, but it is focused to allow you to understand the mammograms.

I think every breast radiologist should have this book!

Must-have reference

I just got back from the course taught by Dr. Tabar and it was phenomenal! If you can't attend his course, then you must have this book. It covers all the material in the course in a clear and concise manner using almost 1600 images. This would also be a great reference for pathologists and surgeons who perform breast surgery, and techs interested in why they do what they do would find this text a great resource. I will use it as an adjunct learning tool after attending the seminar - I would recommend that buyers of this text do the same. Find the time to go to the seminar and then get the book - and good luck in your practice!

Peter Dow, the MACOS project director, offers an insider's account of those days of federally funded scholar-led curriculum innovation and of the ensuing controversy that undermined MACOS. In their attempt to close the gap between the "frontier of research" and the ordinary classroom, the MACOS team learned a great deal about the relationship between scholarship and teaching, the nature of the learning process, and what happens in a classroom when conventional textbooks are replaced by primary sources and a wide variety of media. MACOS demonstrated the power of student-directed learning, of alternative strategies for stimulating inquiry, and of nondidactic approaches to instruction. But the experience of designing and distributing the course also taught these innovators lessons about educational politics and the economics of American textbook development and publishing. I got this book becuase i was working on my dissertation and was looking for some books on the history of education.

its a good read for any serious eduction scholar. if that isn't your think than it will get a bit dry and boring in parts.
