About the Author

Muhammad Raheem Bawa Muhaiyaddeen, a Sufi mystic, can best be remembered for his efforts to bring unity through understanding to the faithful of all religions.

Little is known of his early personal history. Records of his life began in the early 1900's when religious pilgrims traveling through the jungles of Sri Lanka first caught glimpse of a holy man. They were overwhelmed by the depth of divine knowledge that he imparted.

Sometime later a pilgrim invited him to a nearby village, and with that began his public life as a teacher of wisdom.

Throughout Sri Lanka, people from all religious and ethnic traditions would listen to his public discourses. Many consulted him on how to conduct life's affairs, including public figures, politicians, the poor, and the learned.

In 1971 Bawa Muhaiyaddeen accepted an invitation to visit the United States. Here, once again, people from all religious, social and ethnic backgrounds would join to hear him speak. Across the United States, Canada and England, he won recognition from religious scholars, journalists, educators and world leaders. The United Nation's Assistant Secretary General, Robert Muller, asked for Bawa Muhaiyaddeen's guidance on behalf of all mankind. Time Magazine turned to him for clarification during the hostage crisis in 1980. Thousands more were touched by his wise words when interviewed in Psychology Today, the Harvard Divinity Bulletin, the Philadelphia Inquirer, and the Pittsburgh Press.

An Evocative Beginning

The Asma'ul Husna is an essential tradition and methodology within almost all branches of Sufism and Islam. The text itself is worthwhile because it breaks in someways from more mechanical understandings of the beautiful names, but is, I feel, lacking in a certain poetry of language that could be more evocative to the native user of english. A respectful and deeply thought re-rendering of this version of the names and their significance ought to be attempted by an interpreter of the divine like Daniel Ladinsky, who might be able to make the words of Bawa come better to light.

Hagakure: The Way of the Samurai (Kyūjitai: 葉隱; Shinjitai: 葉隠; meaning In the shadow of Leaves or hidden leaves), or Hagakure Kikigaki (葉隠聞書?) is a practical and spiritual guide for a warrior, drawn from a collection of commentaries by the samurai Yamamoto Tsunetomo, former retainer to Nabeshima Mitsushige, the third ruler of what is now the Saga prefecture in Japan. Tsuramoto Tashiro compiled these commentaries from his conversations with Tsunetomo from 1709 to 1716; however, it was not published until many years afterwards. Hagakure is also known as the The Book of the Samurai, Analects of Nabeshima or the Hagakure Analects.

Bushido: The Soul of Japan by Inazo Nitobe is, along with the classic text Hagakure by Tsunetomo Yamamoto, a study of the way of the samurai. A best-seller in its day, it was read by many influential foreigners, among them President Theodore Roosevelt, President John F. Kennedy and Robert Baden-Powell. Yamamoto Tsunetomo (1659-1719) was a samurai retainer of the Saga clan before retiring to a hermitage near Saga Castle in Kyushu. This was brought about by his being legally prohibited in the 1660s from following his lord, Nabeshima Mitsushige, in death a samurai practice forbidden by the Tokugawa shogunate and the governing body of the Nabeshima fief.

While I appreciate the effort taken to compile all three of these magnificent works into a single, more portable volume, the translations of these books (especially Hagakure) are riddled with typos. In my honest opinion, anyone looking this copy over would be better served to purchase each book individually. I personally prefer the editions released by Shambala Press.

About the Author

Andrea Di Nicola earned his Ph.D. in Criminology at the University of Bari-Trento on 11 June 2001. Since 2004 he has been a researcher in Sociology of Deviance at the School of Law at the University of Trento (Italy), member of the Department of Legal Sciences of the University of Trento, and research coordinator of the Trento office of Transcrime, Joint Research Centre on Transnational Crime, University of Trento–Catholic University of Milan (Italy). Since 2004 he has taught Criminology and Applied Criminology at the School of Law at the University of Trento. Since 2003 he has been member of the Academic Board of the International Ph.D. in Criminology of the Catholic University of Milan, coordinated by Prof. Ernesto Savona, where he has tutored several foreign and Italian Ph.D. students. Since 2006 he has been a member of the Academic Board of the Ph.D. in International Studies of the University of Trento, coordinated by Prof. Vincent Della Sala. He has spent research periods abroad in Europe and Australia. In December 1996, he graduated summa cum laude from the School of Law at the University of Trento with a thesis in Criminology. Under the supervision of Prof. Ernesto Savona, Dr. Di Nicola is coordinator of all the research projects developed in the Trento office of Transcrime. Between 2001 and 2007, he has been project manager or lead researcher for more than 20 national and international research projects carried out by Transcrime jointly with other leading EU research centres or researchers, in the field of crime prevention, crime risk assessment as well as economic and organised crime. Many of these projects have concerned trafficking in human beings.

Andrea Cauduro is a researcher at Transcrime and a Ph.D. candidate in criminology at the Catholic University in Milan (final discussion foreseen in february 2008). In 2004 he graduated in law with a final dissertation in criminology on trafficking in human beings in the EU. Since then he has been participating as a researcher in several EU financed research projects on this topic. In addition, he has been extensively writing in national and international books and scientific articles, participating as a speaker at some international conferences and has held some lectures at the University of Trento. Finally, since 2007 he has been cooperating with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) as an expert on trafficking in human beings.

Marco Lombardi is associated professor at the Faculty of Humanities, Catholic University, Milan, teaching Sociology, Theory and Technique of mass communication and Crisis management. He is member of the board of the Ph.D. School of the Faculty of Sociology, director of the Master in Communication of the High School of Communication, director of ITSTIME project (Italian Team for Security Terroristic Issues & Managing Emergencies) member of the board of the Master in Urban Security, member of board of the International Ph.D. in Criminology, member of the board of the Master in International Emergencies Management, faculty of Psychology. He is author of various publications: "Il Kashmir � sempre pi� caldo", in Liberal Risk, 2007; An Italian Village, Dreams Creek, Milan 2006; Comunicare nell’emergenza, Vita e Pensiero, Milan 2005; La comunicazione dei rischi naturali, Vita e Pensiero, Milan 2005; "How to Achieve a Real Pacification Amongst the Iraqi Communities?", in The New Iraq, Landau 2005; "Comments on Al-Qaeda’s terrorism and the nuclear threat", in Acque & Terre, 2004.

Paolo Ruspini (PhD, Milan) is Senior researcher at the Faculty of Communication Sciences of the University of Lugano, Switzerland, as well as Associate Fellow at the Centre for Research in Ethnic Relations (CRER) of the University of Warwick, United Kingdom. A political scientist, he has been researching issues of international and European migration and integration with a comparative approach and by drawing on policy and some qualitative analyses. He is an active member of some of the most important European research networks regarding international migration and social cohesion as well as being a consultant for national and international institutions. In the year 2001, Ruspini received a Marie Curie post-doctoral fellowship for his project "Living on the Edge: Irregular Migrants in Europe" and he also received a grant for holding the position of principal investigator at CRER for the research project in collaboration with the Centre of Migration Research of Warsaw University "In Search for a New Europe: Contrasting Migratory Experiences" (2001-2005). Paolo Ruspini was visiting scholar at the Mershon Center for Education, Ohio State University (1998) and worked for the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (1995-1996). He combines research activities with routine lectures at a post-graduate level in a number of universities and international institutions. He is author of Migration in the New Europe: East-West Revisited (2004, Palgrave-Macmillan, co-edited with A. G�rny) as well as various publications on migration.

About the Author
Mitchell Stephens is a professor of journalism at New York University's Arthur L. Carter Institute. His books include A History of News, named a New York Times "Notable Book of the Year";�the rise of the image, the fall of the word; Journalism Unbound;�Broadcast News; and Writing and Reporting the News. He has written for the New York Times, the Washington Post, and the Los Angeles Times. Much of the research for this book was completed while Stephens was a fellow at the Shorenstein Center at Harvard's Kennedy School.

Compelling Critique of Print Journalism

Mitchell Stephens( professor at NYU) has written an important, erudite critique of contemporary print (newspaper) journalism in order to save it from irrelevance. Losing revenue and readers/viewers (online), newspapers are fighting to survive in a media world given over to opinion, both intelligently informative and blindly partisan. He wants to update objectivity, the writing formula that insists on taking quotes from both sides, using highly-placed sources, collecting facts (who, what, where and who, rarely why) and omitting the opinion and judgment of the journalist. Just-the-facts journalism doesn’t excite readers who are left with little understanding of what the facts mean. Gathering facts and presenting them clearly remains important, but Stephens wants “wisdom journalism,” in which journalists are allowed to provide informed, intelligent, interpretive and insightful perspective on current events. Every journalism professor, journalist, editor, and serious student ought to read this compelling book.

This is one of the most enjoyable books I've read in a year or two. Well, actually, I got the audio version and listened to it (the narrator was excellent). It was everything I hoped it would be: entertaining with great stories along with an overall picture of the news business and its history for a couple of hundred years. I really enjoyed his treatment of tough issues such as ethical dilemmas as well as his clear--though sympathetic--treatment of current issues and the challenges facing the news today. I think anyone concerned with government, politics, or just being a good citizen would enjoy this and benefit from it--immensely.

The Billionaire's Temptress

This book had me so sure of an affair or some other plot twist but surely not what the last pages reveal. I liked that he wasn't as damaged as Christian or Gideon but he was still a dark and brooding force to be reckoned with. I was really getting frustrated with Nikolai, I felt Holly's frustration as well. A quick read but a well told story. All lovers should enjoy such time together. I would recommend it!

I might be a billionaire's temptress too!

I was so excited to read this Vivien Sparx novel after reading the Her Master's Kiss series. Knowing Vivien's work I couldn't wait to read this stand-alone title. We all have been in a place where the perfect weekend has been planned only to have those plans wrecked. It seems that the same is going to happen to Holly. She has worked herself into such a guilt about planning this weekend with the dark and mysterious Nikolai, that this weekend needs to be perfect! Nikolai tries so hard to bring himself to this weekend with everything that Holly had hoped for, although there is just something holding him back. Holly and Nikolai's story develops quickly as the reader is dropped right into a conversation between them regarding this "romantic planned rendezvous" From there the reader is taken on a short journey of missed communications and ques leading up to one of Vivien's most erotic scenes yet! Character development is completely understood upon reading the last of the story and well worth the wait. I would recommend The Billionaire's Temptress to anyone over the age of 18 and has a bit of BDSM fantasy in them!

The Billionaire's Temptress revolves around Holly who feels she is no longer desirable and seeks out a renewed confidence in the arms of sexy "Nikolai" a Greek entrepreneur. While Holly is happily married she needs to escape her everyday life and renew her self confidence. When Adam leaves for the weekend, Holly desperately seeks the attention of the Greek God. However, while Holly tries all she can to show Nikolai just how desirable she can be, Nikolai struggles with his own demons, recognising that he too feels he may not be all the Man she needs. This story requires patience and allowance for the whole story to unfold...you will be pleasantly surprised in the end!

Karim J. Yaghmour is part serial entrepreneur part unrepentant geek. He is the CEO of Opersys Inc., a company providing development and training services on Embedded Android and Embedded Linux, and is most widely known for having authored O'Reilly's Building Embedded Linux Systems — which sold tens of thousands of copies worldwide and has been translated into several different languages.

Karim pioneered the world of Linux tracing by introducing the Linux Trace Toolkit (LTT) in the late '90s. He continued maintaining LTT through 2005 and was joined in this effort by developers from several companies, including IBM, HP, and Intel. LTT users have included: Google, IBM, HP, Oracle, Alcatel, Nortel, Ericsson, Qualcomm, NASA, Boeing, Airbus, Sony, Samsung, NEC, Fujitsu, SGI, RedHat, Thales, Oerlikon, Bull, Motorola, ARM, ST Micro. Other contributions include relayfs and Adeos.
