About the Author
Euclid Seeram is a full time Faculty member of the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) and teaches in the Medical Radiography Diploma Program. In addition he is the Program Head and Teaching Faculty for the Bachelor of Technology Degree Program in Medical Imaging. Euclid has published over 35 papers in professional radiologic technology journals and has had 16 textbooks published to date. Topics of these books include: CT, Computers in Radiology, Radiographic Instrumentation, Digital Radiography, and Radiation Protection. Euclid has co-authored a book on Digital X-Ray Imaging (in press) with Drs Patrick Brennan and Mark McEntee of University College Dublin. Currently he serves on several Medical Imaging Editorial Boards, including the Journal of Medical Imaging and Radiation Sciences; Radiography, an International Journal of Diagnostic Imaging and Radiation Therapy; Biomedical Imaging and Intervention Journal based in Malaysia. Additionally he serves as a peer reviewer for the Journal of Allied Health. In February 2009 he was invited to serve as Editor-in-Chief for Radiography for e-Health Professionals, a new on-line Journal dedicated to all healthcare professionals. In 2000 Euclid was awarded the Fellowship from the CAMRT; an honor bestowed upon highly regarded professionals who have demonstrated an uncommonly high degree of competence and personal commitment to their profession. His current research interests are related to radiation dose in CT, and radiation dose optimization in computed radiography systems.

This Book Had All The Basics I Needed To Follow Along In Class. However, I Was Disappointed Because The Binding Started Falling Apart Like The Glue Wasn't Strong Enough To Withstand Someone Turning The Pages So, They Would Randomly Fall Out. Not The Best Quality.

Beyond criticism at this point in time

Theroux's epic collection of train journeys is a classic of travel literature, packed with unforgettable scenes and characters, the CIA agents living on the beach in Vietnam, the Japanese porn shows, and the sadness in Afghanistan. We see these again with the perspective of more time and the pass of history between his journeys and our journeys (real or via CNN). We could criticize the lack of political correctness, or of the curmudgeonly ways of Mr. Theroux, but hopping on trains all over Asia, regardless of the local political environment, and writing beautifully about the trips is a lot harder to criticize. This the starting point with Theroux, if you like it here, you'll love Dark Star Safari and will collect a good pile of books. They make excellent books to read during your own travels. If it's not your thing, then try a Theroux novel, maybe Hotel Honolulu and see if that works better for you.

Written for his brother Benedictine monks around 1077, Anselm’s Proslogion is perhaps the best-known partially-read book of the Middle Ages. Many readers are familiar only with Anselm’s well-known argument for God’s existence in Chapters 2–4, which is often called the “ontological argument,” a misleading appellation coined centuries later by Immanuel Kant. In this argument Anselm begins with the thought of “something than which nothing greater is able to be thought,” and subsequently he leads the reader to see that such a reality necessarily exists and cannot be thought not to be. This argument – which is, to be sure, crucial to the work – constitutes but a small portion of the whole. Preceding it is a profound but oft-overlooked opening chapter in which Anselm contemplates his all-too-human condition and disposes the reader to receive aptly his argument for God’s existence in the next three chapters. And following this argument are 20 chapters in which Anselm artfully unfolds the depth and breadth of God’s true existence as that than which nothing greater is able to be thought, showing God to be (among other things) able-to-sense, pity-hearted, just, good, and uncircumscribed. Indeed, if the reader is willing to give himself over to the work as whole, he will be compelled, under Anselm’s deft guidance, to “endeavor to straighten up his mind toward contemplating God,” which is how Anselm describes his own role in the work in his prefatory remarks.

(After responding to Gaunilo, Anselm himself requested that these objections and replies be included in subsequent editions of the Proslogion.) This edition also includes an introduction that contextualizes the Proslogion within the monastic, pre-Scholastic age in which it first made its appearance.� In addition, by means of notes and commentary, this edition articulates how to contextualize Anselm’s famous argument in the Proslogion as a whole and in light of his replies to Gaunilo, how to appreciate the artistry whereby Anselm knit the Proslogion together into a coherent and concise unity, and how the work may be taught effectively to interested students. These features set this affordable English edition of the Proslogion apart from those currently available, which too often fail to capture accurately the beauty of Anselm’s prose, which often treat the work through the lens of either later Scholasticism or contemporary analytic philosophy of religion, and which take little note of the craftsmanship whereby Anselm constructed this masterfully integrated work that is remembered too often for too few of its 24 chapters.

Best Suited to Academia

The "recognizable structure of reasoning" that "emerges" in the Proslogion "can be called a 'pattern of erotic thinking,'" says Matthew Walz in the Introduction, quoting himself. Moreover, he says, the Proslogion "is an essentially zetetic work." If you are able to understand these statements without more, then this book is for you. The book and St. Anselm's work are not an easy read. Indeed, Walz says he "prioritize[d]" "literalness" over "easy readability" when translating,

Even the Proslogion's idea of God as "something than which nothing greater is able to be thought" is quite a mouthful. Walz insists that Anselm's work should be read and understood from the vantage point of monasticism and the time before and at which it was written rather than through the eyes of later scholasticism or Kantian spectacles with the lens of the "ontological argument." In this insistence, the book is at its best, and Walz is convincing.

The text of the book is set in a small font; the endnotes, which can be quite lengthy, are even smaller. Walz translated from Latin and he includes a key to how he translated certain words. In his Introduction he explains some of his unconventional translations.

This book is probably best suited to academia.

Love Those Beautiful Babies!

ust Like You is a strikingly beautiful picture book from Zondervan that celebrates the births of babies all around the world. Each baby is given a two-page spread that describes the arrival of the baby in a different culture and geographical location. The unique baby-welcoming traditions are shared, and the joy that new life brings into the world is clearly expressed.

The gentle message that God loves babies everywhere and sees them as a precious gift is clearly conveyed. The child that is being read the story is also specifically celebrated and referenced through the many "just like you" statements throughout the book, and more specifically in the mother who is narrating the story thanking God for the blessing of her new child.

This is definitely a book for mothers to read their beloved children, and - I'll be honest - it's a bit of a tearjerker. I simply can't read about the joy and delights of babies being born without shedding a few tears. After reading the book through by myself first, I wasn't sure if my children would really enjoy it. But they did.

Beautiful artwork of cute babies was enough to convince my three little girls that this was a book worthy of their attention. Illustrator Lin Wang has provided such lustrous, textured paintings of babies from around the world that the artwork alone is worth the asking price.

Just Like You would make a wonderful gift for a new mother (and her baby), and also serves as a very gentle introduction to some of the similarities and differences of regions around the world in both their geography and culture.

A wonderful gift to children who are expecting a new sibling in their family

"Just Like You" is a mother's celebration lullaby for her baby, telling her child how special the day of its birth was and how all around the world that same day other children were born and welcomed to life in many ways. Every child was precious and unique to its mother and family. "Just Like You" ends with a breath of prayer: "On the day you were born, God wrapped his gentle arms around the whole world. He looked into the eyes of every tiny baby and laid them in their mothers' arms. He counted the hairs on each little head. And he called the angels to sing a lullaby of joy. Under his watchful eye, you and all of the children will grow tall and strong, and the world will never be the same. When I tuck you in tonight, all the stars of the universe will sparkle through your window. I'll close my eyes and thank God for his special gift to me. You were everything I wanted, because I wanted a baby... just like you." "Just Like You" is beautifully enriched with warmly colorful illustrations that celebrate the diversity of human cultures and races. "Just Like You" is perfect for reading to children ages 4-7, and would be a wonderful gift to children who are expecting a new sibling in their family.

My new favorite gift for new moms

I just received my copy of "Just Like You" in the mail, and immediately sat down to read it to my two-year-old son. As an international family, we are always looking for resources that teach him about the world. This book fits the bill beautifully. I love the way it so tenderly illustrates the love mothers have for their babies around the world, and how families celebrate new lives. I would recommend--in future editions, as I hope this books is in print for a very long time--that the book would include a map for pointing out all the places mentioned in the story. I will be purchasing multiple copies of this book to give to other new moms and dads. In fact, I'm buying another copy right now.

As an aside to the reviewer who gave the book 3 stars because it doesn't fit adoptive families, I don't think it's fair to discount the beauty of this book, which is intended for biological families, just as you wouldn't discount a book for adopted families because it doesn't match a book for biological families. (If you're looking for a beautifully done book for forever families, I highly recommend "Gotcha Day Blessing" by Dave Butler (look for it on etsy.com)
