Do not waste your money on this book.

I had high hopes for this book, but I didn't do my due diligence. Neural Networks are complicated structures and algorythms, and if you know nothing going into it, you will be lost. This book has exactly ONE diagram in the entire book. In the interests of professionalism in computer book publishing, the author and/or editors should be ostracized for both making the text easier to read. Code examples in a giant font and bolded, I hate looking at the pages. The initial explanations are terrible, with little or no background before jumping into practice. "Ok, now define the sigmoid function this way....". Huh? Why? What am I doing here? I have some background understanding of neural nets and I'm still lost and confused. This booklet (barely 92 pages) actually reads like someone's notes from a college course on neural nets that were just dumped j to a word doc and published. ☹️

Excellent book. I like this. This book totally great. our aim is to feed input at the input layer, and then wait for the output at the output layer, and determine the amount of error in the network, This should result in adjusting of the weights. I highly recommend this. By the way, I have enjoyed this.

It's an excellent read for beginners on the topic and guides you by the hand so that you don't feel like there's any rough spots along the way. Of course, it won't cover everything, but it's a great way to start.

Stafford, a former diplomat who has written extensively on intelligence affairs, has filled in great gaps in our knowledge of events, ranging from the Cuban insurrection in 1895 to the overthrow of the Musaddiq government in Iran in 1953. Churchill, always a man of the nineteenth century in outlook and prejudice, had a lifelong fascination with the "Great Game" as practiced in the borderlands of India and its variations around the world. His sometimes overly romantic view of espionage led to occasionally reckless and costly errors. Former diplomat Stafford compellingly tells the fateful story of Winston Churchill's lifelong obsession with intelligence and secret warfare, which had both trivial and large-scale consequences for the British from the Boer War through the 1950s. From the outset of his colorful multiple career as an imperial officer, journalist, man of letters, and statesman, Churchill evinced a romantic fascination with the arcana of secret intelligence work. Stafford, an intelligence historian (The Silent Game, not reviewed), traces this fixation to a brief 1895 stint in Cuba, where Churchill covered the rebellion against Spain for a British newspaper. At once idealizing and fearing the rebels, Churchill saw for the first time the effects of a popular insurrection fought by guerrillas: The rebels, who had perfect intelligence of Spanish locations and operations, often fought with an insurmountable advantage over the unwieldy government forces. Churchill had similar reactions to other guerrilla tactics he observed or experienced, whether in Ireland in the troubles of 191621 or by anticommunist forces against the Bolshevik regime in the early 1920s; guerrillas, cloaked in secrecy and backed by popular support, were able to win wars against numerically superior conventional opponents through superior intelligence and covert activities. During WW I he founded the first signals intelligence organization, and after the collapse of the tsarist regime he became deeply involved in the ultimately disastrous anticommunist activities of master spy Sidney Reilly. It was as a wartime prime minister, however, that Churchill's concern with spying had the most concrete effect: He forged an important intelligence alliance with the US, oversaw Britain's ``Ultra'' operation, which brilliantly intercepted the communications of the Nazi command, and founded the Special Operations Executive, which ran daring operations in Nazi-occupied Europe, gave aid to resistance movements across Europe, and ultimately engendered Britain's modern intelligence apparatus. A first-rate and, what is more remarkable, an original contribution to Churchilliana, of sure interest to students of Churchill, modern history, or military intelligence. Groundbreaking work on Churchill

"Churchill and Secret Service" documents the life long connection between him and secret intelligence. The author traces this back to Churchill's experience as a journalist in the Cuban revolt against Spain. His romantic nature, combined with the undisputed effectiveness of the guerillas, instilled in him a faith in guerilla warfare and its requirement of good intelligence. The book continues through Churchill's association with "room 40" during WWI, and his continued receipt of intelligence reports during the years "in the wilderness". Naturally the bulk of the work concerns itself with the Second World War, the creation of SOE and the secret armies. The author delves into the "special relationship" between the UK and US and reveals in detail the serious conflicts between SIS/SOE and the OSS-an area that often does not receive much attention by historians. Churchill's second term as prime minister,and subsequent retirement conclude the work. What it shows is that Churchill, probably more than any other political leader, understood the value and the dangers of secret intelligence, and knew how to employ it (most of the time). His experience provides excellent lessons to those who collect or use strategic/operational intelligence,"intelligence was not an end in itself and did not belong to those who produced it." Would that our current intelligence structure followed this advice...

This is an excellent work from an author that thoroughly researches every detail of the subject before it is put to print. As all of Staffords work, the factual basis is unquestionable. Anyone that reads this work will have a deep understanding of the time period and the personalities involved.

A little more time spent on Churchill's life and career ...

A little more time spent on Churchill's life and career, and the times in which he lived, would be helpful to making this book more readable and more interesting. I found myself going to the internet often to look up passing references of names and events to understand what the author was conveying about Churchill. I realize many many books have been written as traditional birth-to-death biographies about him, but that doesn't mean we've all read them, as the author perhaps has. I couldn't get through the whole book because it was too technical, too myopic.

Stunning vision and Inspiring Female Lead Make This a Must-Read

K. D. Morey offers us a densely populated sci fi world that is both creative and thought provoking. Calling to mind issues of immigration, nationalism, and good old-fashioned home sickness while keeping us in a furiously entertaining vision of a future Earth, Morey's writing will make you feel like you are living in her universe under the Orbs. The heroine of the story joins the ranks of tough women in science fiction like Ripley and River Tam even as she navigates her way through a love affair and her own mysterious origins. A great read from a promising new talent.

Best sci-fi I have read in a long time.

The great cover grabbed my attention and I am so glad it did. Great story, full of surprises. Interesting characters, well thought out alien races and fantastic dialogue. This book is a page turner. I hope there is a sequel coming the book leaves you wanting more. I would recommend it to any sci-fi fan. If you like Dune, Star wars, and other sc-fi of that sort this book is right up you alley.

This is an invaluable book for "doing well while doing good" in your intercultural relations, covering the protocols of appointments, business entertaining, greetings, forms of address, gestures, dress, and gifts in 60 of the nations you're most likely to be doing business. Some interesting excerpts:

• Australia: The "thumbs-up" sign, which in the U.S. indicates "O.K." is considered rude.
  
• Brazil: The colors of the Brazilian flag are green and yellow, so avoid wearing this combination in any fashion.
  
• China: Avoid making exaggerated gestures or using dramatic facial expressions. The Chinese do not generally use their hands when speaking, and become distracted by a speaker who does.
  
• Indonesia: Since it is impolite to disagree with someone, Indonesians rarely say "no"...a clear way to indicate "no" is to suck in air through the teeth.

With GATT, NAFTA, and the globalization of business, there is a growing interest in the way cultural differences affect business transactions. A few guides do exist, notably Roger Axtell's Do's and Taboos around the World (1993) and The Do's and Taboos of International Trade (1994), but usually the information must be compiled or searched for country by country, and it is not always conveniently or consistently classified. The authors of this encyclopedic resource have put together "cultural" profiles for 60 countries that will be of value to anyone involved with international business. Brief information regarding the history of the country, the type of government, languages, religions, and demographics are included. The authors then provide what they call a cultural orientation for each country, identifying "cognitive styles, negotiation strategies, and value systems." A summary of business practices (appointment scheduling, negotiating do's and don'ts, business entertaining, and time zone information) follows. Finally, "protocol" considerations, such as greetings, titles and forms of address, gestures, gift giving, and appropriate dress, are offered. Invaluable resource for those working in a global context

I've worked extensively on six continents. Having grown up all over the world, navigating work politics in different cultural environments came relatively easily to me. Still, I found this book incredibly valuable as I sought to maximize my effectiveness, successfully lead large global teams on complex initiatives, and strengthen my relationships with my colleagues.

Essential for any international business person

At first glance, you might think that a book that offers advice on business protocol in 60 countries would be superficial in its advice on each one. But this is a great "read" and browsing from country to country can emphasize the key cultural differences when you are visiting just one country. There's even a section on the US, and it's good to learn that we are almost the only country in the world where strangers get straight down to business (Ever asked a visitor:"How was your flight?" then realized you didn't even listen to the answer before launching into business.)
This book contains both the important practical matters (bring a gift, wrap it in certain colors, don't expect it to be opened in front of you) and also some interesting academic issues: "Locus of control" and "sources of anxiety reduction." You'll be pleased to know that Americans don't worry about anxiety much--except about deadlines at work.

Ethnic and cultural awareness

The book lists over 60 countries and provides background and basic ideas about what to expect in dealing with people from other cultures. It has helped me understand why some of my previous encounters were at times a little awkward. Since then I read up on the respective culture well before any mishap can happen.
