(don't really understand why there is such a simple and understated cover) Regardless, this book is AMAZING! If you are more interactive with reading the history, look up the films that they mention. I have this in my History of Animation class and it is a great book! It's in a bit of a strange order. If you love animation, read this and it will enhance it tons!

A surprsingly (?) good book!

When I received this book, at first glance, I was disappointed--the exercises seemed so...simple. But I gave it a try, and found that, a lot of those exercise were hard for me to play. So, with a little faith, I dived in deeper, and went through the whole book over the course of around a week. I have, so far, found it to be a very enlightening and practical guide, to help me find areas I am weak in, and to help me improve. It's not about "music"--it's just about technique. E.g., can you play a note on the g-string with your left middle-finger, plucking with your right index-finger, and then play a note on the d-string with your ring-finger and pluck with the left finger. Sounds easy, but, for me at least, it's not always the case.

I think this is a "two-hand" exercise book. The author doesn't go into hardly any detail about technique--he just lays out the exercises. I recommend doing all the exercises starting with the left then right plucking finger.

As a bass player for 35 years, my fingers have definitely become arthritic to some degree. The exercises help with that- especially if you play an extended range bass or upright where the stretches are particularly long.

This book is killer! The biggest hurdle to get over when first learning to play the bass or any stringed instrument is building the hand strength and muscle memory for the chord changes and scales. This book is the best way to build these muscles. It's a great book. Perfect for any player on any level. You really can feel and see immediate results. You won't be disappointed!

Beautiful Book of Light & Clarity

Whoever wrote that Burt Harding's book is "amaturish writing" & that Burt veers "inexplicably between The Course in Miracles and "The Secret (book and movie)" must have only briefly skimmed the pages or looked only at the chapter titles of this beautifully clear, wise book Burt has written. There is a chapter on the secret which is only two pages & in no way is the book or movie on the secret dwelled on nor endorsed by Burt. Burt instead uses those two pages to see through the secret as presented in the movie. Instead Burt focuses on the what is, as his title states, "Hiding in Plain Sight".... our True Being. This book, along with all Burt's writings & videos on his website are the very best of Advaita teachings available today. Burt draws from his own experiences, sharing clarifying insights into our True Nature, and the teachings of Ramana Maharshi who is recognized worldwide as the greatest saint of India. Burt's work which he shares so generously with seekers & offers free of charge on his website & on You Tube make this new book indeed "one of the most powerful books on the planet."
I have read so many books on non-duality & Advaita, Tao, and Zen by great sages as well as neo-Advaitists & current Zen teachaers. Many have been helpful; but it is Burt's teachings which have reached me most deeply & clearly. Burt shines a pure Light on Awareness and on the nature of Who We Are and guides us kindly & gently to the Truth of our Being. This book is not a "pamphlet" as the reviewer states. This is an entire book which guides us to the awakening of the Heart & Who We Are. There is no excess of verbiage, nor rambling in this book nor in any of Burt's writings; but only the clearest & best writing. It is a book filled with Light which has the power to awaken us all to the Light We Are. This book is a true gift and a joy to read. Thank you Burt for all You Are and all you share so freely and lovingly.

Burt mentions in the intro that if one reads this with an open heart, there will be a shift in consciousness. I read with an open heart and had a profound shift in consciousness. He also says if one makes it to the end of the book with unwavering interest, then clarity is assured. I read with unwavering interest and have great clarity. If one is to rate this book anything less than 5 stars, they did not read with an open heart nor with unwavering interest. The book is extraordinary when directions are followed, I can attest to it as I have had a major shift in awakening!! If one fails to follow Burt's directions in the intro, nothing special of a book! All depends on the mind one comes into it with. Where is your mind?

Burt Harding has a wonderful understanding of the Human Being, and his/her role in the Universe. My advise is to read the book for yourself, then re-read it again so your mind will launch it into action, and change your whole approach to Life. Great Read!!
